What is Sea Moss?
Sea moss is a a natural occurring seaweed that comes in multiple strains including Gracilaria, Eucheuma, Kappaphycus and Chondrus Crispus. Our products currently contain either the Gracilaria or Eucheuma strains, which to our knowledge and experience are equally beneficial. All sea mosses are a specific type of seaweed classified under one of the largest groups of algae called Rhodophytes. The term moss has been given to it because it has a habit of covering rocks like regular moss does on trees. It grows all over the planet including the North Atlantic coastlines of Europe and America, South East Asia, the Southern Pacific, and Southern Atlantic. Our strains are sourced from areas in the Caribbean Sea.
Sea moss has been used worldwide for centuries. The Chodrus Crispus strain became famous in the 1800's during the Irish potato famine, giving it the name "Irish Moss". Even before then sea moss has been used in folk medicine. Irish immigrants also brought it to Jamaica where it has become a popular product known to provide many benefits such as increasing male libido.
Recently popularized in America through the holistic herbalist Alfredo Bowman, often referred to as "Dr. Sebi", sea moss is starting to become known as a true superfood.
